Super Bowl Food Economics, Chicken Wing Abundance
Despite soaring egg prices caused by avian flu, chicken wing prices remained relatively stable for Super Bowl LIX. The USDA reports that "broiler" chickens raised for meat were less affected by the virus than egg-laying hens. Consequently, Americans were expected to consume 1.5 billion wings during the game, while some restaurants were forced to ration eggs or add surcharges.
