Researchers affiliated with the World Health Organization reportedly filed a patent for a bioengineered swine flu virus in 2006, years before the H1N1 pandemic. The patent holders, Robert Webster and Richard Webby, operate the world's only laboratory designed to study influenza at the animal-human interface. This discovery fuels claims that the pandemic may have been manufactured to create a market for patented vaccines.
