The United Nations has appointed an independent rapporteur to address violence and discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI). The new mandate focuses on the acronym LGBTI, notably excluding "Queer" and other letters from the expanded LGBTQ+ acronym, while seeking to decriminalize same-sex relations in 70 countries.
