Dutch Backpackers Detained, Texas Border Patrol Incident
Two Dutch tourists from Amsterdam, Miriam and Wesley, were detained for six weeks in a Texas jail after their visas expired while hitchhiking toward Mexico. Wesley was reportedly held in an isolation cell for four weeks after failing a psychological test, while Miriam was held in a crowded cell with 80 other women. The couple claims they were denied legal representation and phone calls before eventually being released and returning to the Netherlands, where they are now considering legal action for negligence.
