An investigation in Spain has uncovered a decades-long network that stole newborn babies from their mothers to sell them to regime-supporting families. The practice began under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco as political repression but evolved into a lucrative business involving doctors and Catholic nuns. Nearly 1,500 cases have been filed with the Attorney General, alleging that mothers were falsely told their infants had died at birth.
