The United States and United Kingdom have publicly identified China as the source of a decades-long cyber attack campaign targeting politicians, journalists, and the UK Electoral Commission. Seven Chinese hackers have been hit with criminal charges and sanctions for their involvement in the group known as Advanced Persistent Threat (APT). New Zealand also reported that its parliamentary system was targeted by the same group in 2021.
