New Rochelle Containment Zone and National Guard Deployment
The State of New York established a one-mile containment zone in New Rochelle to curb a high concentration of COVID-19 cases linked to a local synagogue. The National Guard was deployed to the area, though officials clarified their role is limited to logistical support, such as delivering meals to students and cleaning facilities, rather than military policing. New York State also reported its first death, an 82-year-old woman with pre-existing emphysema.
