Moderna Vaccine Contamination in Japan, Stainless Steel Particles
Authorities in Japan suspended 1.6 million doses of the Moderna vaccine after discovering contaminants, later identified as particles of stainless steel. Takeda Pharmaceutical reported the contamination likely resulted from friction between metal parts in the bottling machinery at a Rovi facility. Nearly 3,800 people in Kanagawa Prefecture received shots from the affected lots before the suspension.
