Tennessee Parental Accountability Act, Juvenile Crime
The Tennessee legislature has passed the "Parental Accountability Act," which holds parents financially responsible for crimes committed by their children. After a first offense, parents can be fined $1,000 for each subsequent crime or be required to perform community service, such as picking up trash. Sheriff Floyd Bonner of Shelby County supports the measure as a way to curb the record-high rates of juvenile crime in Memphis.
