737: Sculley and Heil

Ham Radio Audio, Articulation and the First Equalizer

After leaving the touring sound business in the early 1980s, Bob Heil returned to ham radio and found the audio quality of modern Japanese rigs lacking. He developed a small equalizer to improve speech articulation, which won a cover award from QST magazine in 1982. This success led to the founding of Heil Sound's microphone division, which now dominates the global ham radio market.
