The King Fire in El Dorado County reached 98% containment after burning nearly 98,000 acres and destroying 12 homes. In a separate incident near Bass Lake, a man was identified as the cause of a 300-acre fire after he attempted to burn a deer carcass to eliminate the smell. The man confessed to the act but has not yet been arrested.
