Peanut the Squirrel, New York DEC Euthanasia Controversy
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) agents raided the home of Mark Longo to seize his pet squirrel, Peanut, and a raccoon named Fred. Despite Peanut being a social media star used to fund an animal sanctuary, authorities euthanized the animals citing rabies concerns.
