The culture ministry of Chechnya, under the leadership of Ramzan Kadyrov, announced a ban on music that does not fall between 80 and 116 beats per minute (BPM). The rule is intended to protect Chechen musical tradition from "polluting" Western influences like techno and pop. Artists have until June 1st to rewrite their compositions to comply with the new rhythmic standards.
